When Effie first started talking about Armie Hammer through her Instagram account ‘@houseofeffie’, she didn’t start by alleging Hammer abused or raped her.

On 30 or 31 December 2020, Effie posted a now archived/deleted sensual pole-dancing video of herself with a voiceover at the 0:41 mark saying, “There is nothing more that I love than the idea of you lying beside me”, which her followers were quick to recognize belonged to Armie Hammer. One such person via Instagram DM, as seen in the screenshots below, asked Effie: “May I ask if Armie Hammer voiced over this video?” to which she answered on 5 January 2021: “Not knowingly. Lol.” Another follower asked her the same question and she replied in the affirmative, further urging the person to ‘shoot their shot’.

Subsequently, on 9 January 2021, Effie storied several unverified screenshots of D/S (dominant-submissive) conversations from 2016–2020 between herself and Hammer (a few images below), and further claiming that Hammer had broken her heart by either ghosting her or dumping her (more on that later), to which one of her followers wrote: “Oh damn girl.. you better off without him, he’s a sick bastard and you don’t deserve this”, to which Effie replied, “It was consensual!” She further claimed a few days later (as the ‘kitten sisterhood’ narrative formed; more on this in future posts) in one of her IG stories that all her follower’s concerns only titillated her further.

Soon, a verified gossip account on Instagram, DeuxMoi, currently with over 1.6 million following, directed their followers to Effie’s account, of which DeuxMoi later clarified: “We reshared information that was already posted by other accounts and that was shared by many other people on all social media platforms in addition to two posts that included quotes that were on the record. No specific allegations were ever mentioned in any of these posts. In conclusion, major ick to any ‘camp’ or publication who would try to put blame for an actor’s scandal on a social media account that reshared information that all publications did at that time. And for the record again we never posted any of the details.” However, Neve Iredale in October 2021 spoke of DeuxMoi breaking the scandal:

“DeuxMoi has, however, broken some big news. Scarlet Johansson’s marriage to Colin Jost, Zoe Kravitz’ divorce, and the sex-scandal at the Hollywood favorite, Justin Bieber-endorsed church Hillsong. Fairly recently, it spearheaded the news surrounding the Armie Hammer scandal. Indeed, I followed the account at the time and was the first of my friends to see the messages between the ‘Call Me By Your Name’ actor and @Houseofeffie which was the impetus for a tidal wave of accusations against Hammer. DeuxMoi attempted to distance herself from the story, after news outlets cited the page as the primary source. The incident raised questions of accountability for DeuxMoi, would the owner be liable in a defamation case? The middle-(wo)man that simply reposts stories verbatim cannot bear much responsibility for the consequences of the shared information, or can she?”

Notably, around the same time, Effie via her stories had also said that if Hammer had continued to protect her feelings by not ghosting her, she’d have protected his secrets too declaring that it was her turn to hurt him (screenshots below), which a tweeter noted, “Does that undercut the authenticity of her claims at all? Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” Later in November 2021, Effie again expressed her annoyance over Hammer ghosting her and choosing to ‘hoe around with any random lost airhead plucked out of DMs’, possibly alluding to Courtney Vucekovich and Paige Lorenze.

On 10 January 2021, Armie Hammer began trending on Twitter.

The Sun UK noted in a headline on 11 January 2021: “Armie Hammer accused of ‘discussing cannibalism and kinky sex acts’ in ‘leaked DMs’ to women as he fights ex in divorce”. At this stage, a few people on social media refused to believe the DMs and few others saw the leak as ‘kink-shaming’, ultimately defending Hammer.

On 11 January 2021, a cryptic tweet by Hammer’s ex, Paige Lorenze looking for a therapist went viral and Jessica Ciencin Henriquez, who was pictured in Los Angeles on 31 August 2020 with Hammer, and subsequently, made the news for tweeting on 30 October 2020 that she’d blocked the actor, responded to it.

On 12 January 2021, Jessica Ciencin Henriquez claimed via tweet: “If you are still questioning whether or not those Armie Hammer DMs are real (and they are) maybe you should start questioning why we live in a culture willing to give abusers the benefit of the doubt instead of victims. TW// sexual violence”. She further storied on her Instagram the same day: “It takes an army to hide a predator: Behind every abuser is a team of people working hard to cover up the trail.”

Per our research, this seems to be the first time Armie Hammer was accused of committing ‘sexual violence’ and called an ‘abuser’ and a ‘predator’ by a woman previously linked to him.

On 13 January 2021, it was reported that Armie Hammer dropped out of Shotgun Wedding. It was widely speculated at the time that he was fired because of the allegations, however, Hammer issued a statement on the same day saying: “I’m not responding to these bullshit claims, but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot, in good conscience now, leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”
